Richard's Produce
It’s a simple fact: farm fresh eggs are just better store-bought eggs. Richard Hofacker of Richard’s Produce knows this, and that’s why he’s in the egg business. He keeps about 200 free range laying chickens in Orange Lake, and they produce all the eggs he brings to market.
“I have a border fence to keep the dogs and the critters out, but besides that these chickens are free range,” Richard said. “They’re not given any steroids or hormones, and they’re given all natural feed.”
Richard raises Rhode Island Reds and Red Star chickens. Those breeds produce a large volume of large size eggs. Richard sells medium, large and jumbo eggs.
And what’s different about these eggs? Not only are they yolks of farm fresh eggs dark orange in color, there is a real health benefit to buying them. According to a Mother Earth News study, farm fresh eggs have 1⁄3 less cholesterol, 1⁄4 less saturated fat, 2⁄3 more vitamin A, 2 times more omega-3 fatty acids, 3 times more vitamin E, and 7 times more beta carotene than eggs from the store.
So make sure you take home some farm fresh eggs this week from Richard’s Produce for your omelets, quiches, and baking. You’ll be able to taste the difference.
